My work treads the ground between traditional values and contemporary themes. The ideal to create images that are attractive whilst also thought-provoking, with a raw edginess about them.

Exploring  identity and the psyche, I use images and concepts from media including scientific imagery, magazines, films and fiction. In addition I use images and themes from travels to The Alhambra, Angkor Wat and Nepal.

I explore two themes:
- Mute and still, the mediums I use such as paint and charcoal, becomes an analogy for the self in contrast to the noise of media and contemporary life.

- Painting as valid form of expression, in the face of the proliferation of media.

My paintings explore tensions between surfaces. They are both representational and abstract. Sumptuous areas of colour and texture are set against flat notes of colour. Paint can be stripped away to show bare canvas. Undermining the notion of painting as transcendental experience.

Whilst my drawings also explore the image abstracted into the nature of the material.
